Oriental Rug Cleaning

Your oriental rugs and carpets are not just where you play with your children  ... they are also valuable investments and art treasures.

They must be stored and cleaned properly to maintain the rug itself and increase the value. That’s why you do not want to clean your oriental rug yourself.

Trust your oriental rugs and carpets to our professional rug cleaning services and our proven techniques to properly clean and maintain your investment.

Oriental Rug Cleaning

  • We separate rugs based on whether they are hand-made or machine manufactured. Hand-made area rugs generally are more sensitive and require a different technique for proper cleaning.
  • Next, we remove as much dust as possible from the rug using machines that deliver commercial suction and performance.
  • We test your oriental rugs for color fastness. This is an extremely important step that many cleaning services do not take.  We will not clean your rug until we have completed a color fastness test.  If the colors bleed, we have to use special methods like dry cleaning or extraction to leave the least amount of water as possible on the rug.
  • We carefully analyze your area rug for high traffic soiling or stains. These areas are pre-treated with commercial cleaning products for best results.  One fact about oriental rugs pertains to certain stains, such as pet stains, which may have already permanently changed the colors of the wool and cannot be removed.
  • If the rug smells and has pet odor, we neutralize and eliminate the odor.

Area rugs are then washed with different methods depending on the type, age, color fastness, and thickness. Some methods we use include soaking and submersion in water, dry cleaning, jet spray and extraction.

Fringes are treated separately to prevent damage.

Area Rug Drying

If rugs are hung to dry, the moisture in the fibers can lead to too much strain on the rug foundation.   Therefore, we eliminate this stress on the area rug and lay it flat to dry.

We use air movers to help facilitate the drying without the use of high heat in order to eliminate shrinkage.  Just as wool or 100% cotton will shrink in a high heat dryer, the same is true for area rugs. We never use heat in our drying process.

Note that with an area rug's first wash, it is typical for the rug to shrink slightly (less than an inch) – just as cotton and wool clothing does in even a cold water hand wash.

Oriental Rug Padding

Area rug padding is a great way to extend the life of your oriental and loose rugs.

Rug padding has a needle-punched, recycled felt surface which is textured to hold any type of rug.  It provides a dense and firm foundation to prevent premature wear of your oriental rug.

The rug padding's bottom is a natural rubber to provide maximum gripping strength, not a sprayed-on latex that can break down and harm your floor.

You can use this padding on hardwood and hard floors with all types of area rugs ... antique rugs, oriental rugs, new rugs, and flat weave rugs to name a few. It prevents slipping and protects both the oriental rug and your floor.
